At Ottenwess Law, we have seen that the medical-legal cases being filed today are much more medically complex than in the past. We realized that we needed to adjust in order to continue to provide the top notch representation to which our clients have become accustomed. We added two nurse paralegals, Samantha Liscomb and Lori Sanders, who work with our litigation attorneys and set us apart from other medical-legal litigation teams. They are Registered Nurses and as a part of their role at the Firm they analyze all of the medical records that come in the door. As medically trained professionals, they are able to identify nuances and discrepancies in a plaintiff’s claimed injuries from the medical records which can play a critical role in the defense of the case.
Having the expert eyes of the nurse paralegals on our cases actually saves our clients money. Clients have “experts” working on their case without paying expert rates. In addition, their intimate knowledge of the medicine of the case helps them identify only the most pertinent records to be sent to the retained experts, which saves the retained experts from reviewing stacks of unnecessary records and billing at their normal expert hourly rates.
Our nurse paralegals are also utilized as our on call “experts” during plaintiff’s nursing expert depositions – at no additional cost to our clients. This is important when plaintiff’s nursing experts attempt to pull out brand new and never before alleged claims of nursing malpractice in the middle of their depositions.
