Ottenwess Law is a boutique law firm serving a diverse client base in a wide variety of litigation and transactional matters. While small in size, our attorneys bring a diverse background and skill set that helps to make our firm unique. Our partners and associates have more than 175 years of combined experience in litigation, regulatory and transactional matters and governmental relations.
Founding Partner David Ottenwess began practicing law in Michigan in 1986. Today, he focuses his practice on professional liability defense including medical malpractice, real estate, general litigation matters, and licensing matters. David is an AV rated* attorney who has been inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and has been named to Michigan Super Lawyers in medical malpractice defense litigation for ten consecutive years. In 2011, David was appointed by a federal judge to serve as Special Master in the decades-long litigation involving the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. David is a frequent speaker before healthcare providers and attorneys and is chair of the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel and a former board member of the MSU Law Alumni Association.
Partner Stephanie Ottenwess joined the firm in 2012 as the firm broadened its focus to include the business side of healthcare law. Stephanie has advised physician groups, mental health providers, and healthcare professionals on matters of compliance including HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback, criminal investigations and employment related matters. Stephanie also oversees the firm’s appellate law practice group and has successfully handled numerous appeals on matters of medical malpractice and professional liability defense.
Partner Tony Taweel joined the firm in 2010, focusing his practice on multiple aspects of litigation defense. In addition to his extensive experience in handling medical malpractice defense, Tony represents municipal clients in employment matters as well as investigations and matters of governmental immunity. Tony also has experience representing banks in litigation matters as well as small businesses in matters of real estate and construction law.
